5/18: Gang AwarenessPresentation
Overfelt High School, 1835 Cunningham Ave.
VCET Team 1 (8765) conducted a Gang Awareness presentation to 75 teachers and staff at Overfelt High School. The presentation covered topics regarding current gang trends, gang violence, gang membership, gang identification and the current gang climate surrounding the area of Overfelt High. A VCET officer arranged for a follow-up meeting scheduled for the end of summer to discuss gang issues that occurred during the vacation break and how it may affect the new school year and how the school staff can address any problems.
5/19: Stolen Vehicle, Hit and Run, Felony Warrant
Mt. Pleasant Elementary School, 14275 Chandler
Police officers spotted a stolen vehicle and officers conducted a car stop. The stolen vehicle suddenly drove into the above school and collided into several cyclone fences. The suspects fled. A police perimeter was set and the two suspects were caught. One suspect had a felony warrant for his arrest. Both suspects were booked into jail.
5/24: Robbery
Ophelia and Rigoletto
Three males in a car approached a soda vendor. One of the subjects exited the car and cut the money pouch off the cart with a knife. The subject pushed the victim and fled in the car. The subjects are still outstanding.
5/24: False Imprisonment
3200 block of Pomeroy Court
A female victim flagged down officers at Quimby Road and Capitol Expressway to report a false imprisonment that occurred on Pomeroy Court. The victim stated she was held in that residence against her will, at gun point, for three days. The suspect is known, but was not located at this time.
5/24: Possible Child Annoying/Kidnapping
1500 block of Flanigan Drive
The suspect attempted to lure an 8-year-old girl away from her residence for unknown reasons. When the girl took refuge in her apartment, the suspect kicked the door open but did not enter. An officer who was first on the scene observed the suspect trying to flee the scene and arrested him.
5/24: Weed and Seed, Meet and Greet
Approximately 100 community members attended the East San Jose Weed and Seed Meet and Greet event at Most Holy Trinity Church. Deputy Chief O’Connor, Captain Diane Urban and several lieutenants attended the event along with Councilmember Dave Cortese and Councilmember Nora Campos. Several city departments and community-based organizations were on hand to discuss services available to the community.
5/27: Missing Children Awareness Day
Smythe Clubhouse, 2195 Cunningham Ave.
Police officers from the Foothill Division attended a community meeting at the Smythe Clubhouse, also known as the Boys and Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley. The theme for the event, hosted by the Boys and Girls Clubs and the Vanished Children’s Alliance, was Missing Children’s Awareness Day (May 25).About 200 people, mostly young children, attended. Representatives from the San Jose Fire Department, San Jose Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit and Fugitive Watch were present and took part in the over-all presentation, including free fingerprinting for the children.
