37th Annual Evergreen Invitational Golf Tournament at
the
Villages Golf and Country Club set for July 21 and 22
The 37th Annual Evergreen Invitational Golf Tournament will be held at the Villages Golf and Country Club on July 21 and 22, 2006. This major annual event offers a unique opportunity to present your business to the entire Villages Community and to many other communities in the Bay Area through exposure to many invited guests.
The Villages is a Bay Area award-winning, active adult community, with over 4,200 residents and professional adults. Each year at this time, The Villages invites members of the local business community to assist in the sponsorship of this Villages event.
All sponsors will be prominently posted at the clubhouse and in our printed brochure. Individual sponsors are also displayed at various tee areas throughout the golf course. The Villages would like to invite you to become a sponsor of this event. The sponsor participation categories are:
Platinum Sponsor ($2500) – display located at practice and all 18 holes as well as a large listing in the sponsor’s brochure

Clean Evergreen Day on June 3
The District 8 Office of Councilmember Dave Cortese invites Evergreen residents to dump their unwanted items on June 3 as part of Clean Evergreen Day on June 3. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., or until all dumpsters are full. Participants must live within the boundaries of District 8 (this includes zip codes 95135, 95148, 95121). Photo ID with address is required.
Bins for dumping are at the following locations: McDonalds parking lot, near S. White Road at Aborn Road, Scottsdale Drive (along Thompson Creek), as well as Remington Way, next to Boggini Park.
The following items are not allowed at any of the cleanup locations:
Recyclable items, such as glass, cans, newspaper or any cardboard (these items can be recycled with regular garbage service)
Wet household garbage, dirt, yard waste, and/or human waste
Gas cylinders and tanks, such as propane or helium
Gas powered motors, such as lawn mowers, with fluids (gas and oil)
Hazardous items
In addition, some other items will only be accepted at particular locations. Some items for dumping are also limited to certain quantities.

Genealogy Conference June 3
The San Jose Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints invites the public to a Genealogy Conference Saturday, June 3, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the San Jose Stake Center, 1336 Cherry Ave., in San Jose. Computer stations will be set up for beginners to work on their family history research as well as classes to learn more about their ancestors and discovering your roots. Community input sought for next parks director
Community members are invited to attend one of four community meetings to help define the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Director of San José's Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services (PRNS).

Community members have an opportunity to help chose the person who will lead the City's Department of Parks, Recreation & Neighborhood Services by helping to determine the qualities they would like to see in the ideal candidate.
The Director of PRNS is responsible for the largest City Department outside of Public Safety. The director manages a professional staff of approximately 1,500 that operates 42 Community, Youth and Senior Centers, 170 neighborhoods and 9 regional parks, and provides a large variety of programs that enrich the lives of San José residents. The Department's mission is to provide opportunities for play, hope and joy in life.
The Department's core services include the following: 1) community strengthening that enables individuals and groups to exercise power and influence over their own lives and communities; 2) life enjoyment that provides opportunities for city residents to play, learn, socialize and receive supportive assistance to live healthy and enriched lifestyles; 3) neighborhood livability to support community residents, schools and neighborhood organizations to make their neighborhoods more livable, provide and maintain open space and neighborhood parks; and, 4) strategic support that provides department services that support and guide the provisions of core services.
Los Paseos Youth Center Summer Camp Information
The Los Paseos Youth Center (LPYC), located on the Los Paseos Elementary School campus at 121 Avenida Grande, serves youth ages 11 through 17 with a variety of after school and summer programs. Summer programs begin on Monday, June 19, and runs Monday through Friday from 2:30 - 6:30 p.m. Activities and events will vary daily, with special events and field trips provided for a nominal fee.
With its grand opening in January 2006, the LPYC offers an array of activities where youth can work and play on computers, video game systems, participate in various gym sports, and socialize with peers. The LPYC is free to all youth that meet the age and grade requirement (6th grade). LPYC offers a variety of incentive programs that recognize youth who participate daily and promote the program. The "Bring the Buddy" contest yielded 24 new participants with the contest winners and new participants attending a free barbeque. Currently, youth are entered in a drawing for a PlayStation 2 game simply for attending daily. Youth can expect motivational prizes for recreating in a safe environment.
Parents have the opportunity to participate as an integral part of their child's after school and summer activities by joining the LPYC Community Advisory Committee (CAC). The CAC provides input on youth programming, assists in fundraising activities and develops strategic plans with short and long term goals. Purpose of the Santa Clara Open Space Authority
With the upcoming election, here are some important facts pertaining to the Santa Clara County Open Space District.
District 7 includes all of Evergreen, Silver Creek, The Villages Golf & Country Club, and portions of East and South San Jose is currently vacant.
What is the purpose of the Citizen’s Advisory Committee?
The CAC’s purpose as established by the Board of Directors is to provide public input to the Authority regarding policy matters, provide a channel of communication to the Board, aid in fostering a positive image of the Authority, and help to educate the public about the Authority’s goals and accomplishments.
How to become a CAC member?
The Director of the district having the vacancy shall recommend for appointment a District representative who shall be subject to confirmation by the board. The Administration Committee of the Open Space Authority shall review all applications for General Interest Area Representatives, may interview the applicants and shall recommend nominations for consideration and appointment by the board.
How would the Public know of CAC vacancies?
Appointment opportunities shall be announced through various publications, posted at libraries, and distributed by mailings as may be directed by the Board upon recommendation of the General Manager, including but not limited to newspaper, publication notices in the libraries, direct mail (or targeted to specific groups) or any of a variety of other actions which may assist in encouraging a wide range of interests and representatives of the cultures of the population served by the authority to participate.
