Alaska’s First Lady to christen Sapphire Princess

Alaska’s first lady, Nancy Murkowski (right), will become the godmother of Princess’ newest ship, Sapphire Princess.

The ceremony will take place on June 10 in Seattle. Mrs. Murkowski, wife of Alaska governor Frank Murkowski, will christen the vessel that evening in a ceremony that pays tribute to both Alaska and the city of Seattle. The ship will sail on its inaugural seven-day Alaska voyage on June 13. “We are honored that Mrs. Murkowski has agreed to become the godmother of our newest Alaska-bound vessel,” said Alan Buckelew, president of Princess Cruises.

Evergreen Times Valentines cruise off to a fast start

The largest Valentines group cruise ever sponsored by the Evergreen Times is selling quickly as families began booking as soon as they saw the article and advertisement published in the newspaper last month. The eight-day cruise features a new itinerary that includes the romantic ports of Acapulco, Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa and Manzanillo. The ship will sail from San Diego Sunday, Feb. 13.

The next day, the Valentines Day celebration will include a cocktail party, a gala dinner, and a Las Vegas-style show. Evergreen Times readers will also be presented with champagne and chocolates upon boarding the ship. Special low pricing for balconies have been arranged on a first-come, first-served basis. An Evergreen Times group party will also be held and prizes will be awarded to guests. “This is our biggest cruise sponsored by the Evergreen Times, and everyone is excited about our new itinerary,” said Times publisher William Bellou. “I am looking forward to setting up the dining room tables so that families from various Evergreen neighborhoods can be together.
