Reverse this call to action

Submitted by Council District 8

District 8 Councilmember Dave Cortese and the members of the Evergreen Visioning Project Task Force are seeking support from residents to reverse the action taken at the April 19 city council meeting.

The city council approved to dissolve District 8’s community-based EVP effort and replace it with a smaller group substituting many District 8 citizens with members appointed by Mayor Ron Gonzales, District 5 and District 7. Here are some steps you can take to support the effort to reverse this action:

- Call the mayor and city council and let them know you will not tolerate their actions. Ask the council members to vote on May 3 to let District 8 residents make the decisions that affect District 8. Do not allow the Task Force to become diluted or turned into a token. Allow the Evergreen Visioning Project process to continue as currently laid out.

You do not have to leave a return phone number—political offices often use these to build up their own databases.

- In addition, send an e-mail to the mayor and city council. Keep in mind that your e-mail address will be added to their database too, in which case you may not want to use a work address. If you are worried about your e-mail address being captured, create a secondary email account.

District 8 should get to make recommendations to the council on its own quality of life issues. Adding representatives from developers, lobbyists and other interests will dilute District 8’s self-determination.

The EVP Task Force and city staff has done tremendous work with serious analysis. Creating a new specific plan task force is an “extreme makeover” and an insult to all that has been done.

Let the process play out. Let the District 8 community’s voice continue to be heard on its own neighborhood issues.

- Ask your friends and family to call and e-mail. We would like thousands of calls and e-mails to be made by Tuesday, May 3.

- Attend the meeting on May 3. Call the District 8 office for confirmation details at (408) 277-5242.

“This is the single most significant decision to affect the future of District 8 in many years,” said Cortese. Questions? Call Council District 8 at (408) 277-5242.
