Pet of the Month

Evergreen resident Amy Scripps on her horse Princess.

‘Princess’

Princess, a white, female Arabian horse with brown speckles, may be 20 years old, but don’t tell her that.

“That’s kind of old for a horse,” admits her 9-year-old owner Amy Scripps, “but she has a frisky personality.”

Princess joined the Scripps family two-and-half years ago when she was 18 years old, but Amy had already been riding her for two years before that. Her Uncle Mark gifted Amy with Princess when his daughter lost interest in owning a horse.

“What a great gift! I was soooo excited!” says Amy, who attends Laurelwood Elementary School. “My Mom introduced me to horses, because she grew up owning and riding horses in Los Altos Hills. When she was little, she had two horses named Bobbie Magee and Rondo. She also had a Shetland pony named Dusty. My Mom is great and is the main reason I started to like horses, too.”

Winning first place in a horse show at Cevalo Riding Academy tops the many memories Amy has of Princess. “It was fun, because you got all dressed up and had to compete in several categories,” recalls Amy. “I won first place for ‘Best Appearance.’ Princess was all trimmed and cleaned and looked really nice. I also won other ribbons for participating in the other competitions.”

Fortunately, what could have been a serious turn of events is Amy’s funniest memory with Princess. The equine once got spooked, stopped abruptly and almost sent Amy sailing off of Princess’ back. “Somehow I jumped off so I did not get hurt,” she assures.

“Princess is frisky, but very loving too,” concludes Amy. “She acts just like a Princess when she prances around the arena and many times has her own ideas about who’s in control when I’m riding her.”

With her Pet of the Month entry, Amy Scripps has won a $20 gift certificate from Evergreen Pet Center, located at 1620 E. Capitol Expressway in the Silver Creek Marketplace by Hollywood Video.
