30th anniversary celebration activities to
be held at Evergreen Valley College

Noon, April 24: Gullo II Opening ceremony
Opening ceremonies features Chancellor Rosa G. Perez from San Jose/Evergreen Community College District, Evergreen Valley College President Dr. David Wain Coon, Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren, Santa Clara County Supervisor Pete McHugh and District 10 San Jose City Councilmember Nancy Pyle, a former San Jose/Evergreen Community College District Board Member.

9 a.m. to 1 p.m., April 27: Campus KinderCaminata 2006
Kindergartners from the Alum Rock School District are invited to walk through a series of career stations. KinderCaminata will give these children the promise of higher education as well as the opportunity to experience information regarding different careers.

KinderCaminata is a celebration of “The Day of the Child” (El Dia Del Niño). El Dia Del Niño is a very special holiday in Mexico and Central America and is a day when families and schools let their children know how much they are loved. It is our intention, through KinderCaminata, to provide the same care and support in partnership with the schools and families in our community.

7:30 to 9 p.m., April 27: Montgomery Hall Dat Phan, Comedian
The ASPIRE Program and the Associated Students will present Dat Phan, a recent winner of the TV show “The Last Comic Standing,” and a well-known comedian from the Vietnamese community. For tickets call Vivian Yabumoto, (408) 274-7900, Ext. 6227.

11 a.m. to 5 p.m. , April 29: Front of Library Festival of Cultures
EVC will open its campus to the community and celebrate the Festival of Cultures. The day includes performances by many of the clubs on campus as well as outside multi-cultural performers. Food, fun and tours of the campus will also be available.

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. , May 3: Front of Library Cinco de Mayo Celebration
Sponsored by the Enlace Student Association, this is an opportunity for the campus community to come together to celebrate the historical significance of the Battle of Puebla. The festivities will include cultural folkorico dancers, entertainment and food.

12:30 p.m., May 3: Montgomery Hall 30th annual Poetry Festival
This event features poet Rosanna Higashi as well as 25 students, faculty and staff at open microphones.

6 p.m., May 3: Montgomery Hall Mayoral Candidate Forum
The Democratic Caucus Club at EVC and The Villages present a community forum moderated by Damian Trujillo of Channel 11 for those candidates running for Mayor for the city of San Jose. Each of the major candidates has confirmed their participation. This is a free event open to the public.

6 p.m., May 5: Montgomery Hall Scholarship Awards and Recognition Ceremony
EVC expects to award over 70 different scholarships totaling $33,000 to over 100 incoming, continuing and transferring students.

2 and 8 p.m., May 5: Roble D-312 "Vinegar Tom"

The Theatre Arts Program presents the play "Vinegar Tom," by Caryl Churchill, directed by Gemma Whelan.

Library hours, April 17-May 14: Library Asian Pacific Islander Exhibit
The Library will feature an Asian/Pacific Islander art display in the display cases and on the walls of the library. The display is divided by area or country and has a good representation from India, Japan, Vietnam and the Philippines.
