Evergreen Ice Hockey Players 2008 State Champions

On Sunday, Apr. 6 in Escondido, the Santa Clara Blackhawk’s Bantam A travel ice hockey team brought home the CAHA (California Amateur Hockey Association) Bantam A State Championship by defeating the Stockton Colts. The four Bantam A ice hockey players from Evergreen - Erik Leaf, Brandon Shank, Justin Hubert and Ben Westmoreland - helped the state championship in an exciting 3 – 2 overtime victory after coming back from a two goal deficit.

The top two northern and southern California playoff teams in their division advanced to the California Amateur Hockey Associations state Championships. This year there were approximately 700 Amateur Travel Bantam players (aged 13 - 14) on 42 teams. Of the 42 teams, 27 teams with about 400 players ranked at the highest "A" level. The state championship capped off a great season for the Evergreen hockey players and their Blackhawk team who won the San Jose Winter Classic Tournament in December and the Las Vegas Presidents Day Tournament in February along with finishing in first place for NORCAL league play. The state championship represents the highest level of achievement for travel hockey players.
