A recent study indicates that baby boomers are working longer these days. When do you plan to retire and why? What do you plan to do when you retire? (Asked at Albertsons at Tully and Capitol Expressway)

“I want to retire soon, but I don’t think I can. I need to work until I have enough money to retire. I think I just want to move to a less expensive place so we can travel. We don’t travel much now because we have young children.”

Kamaljit Gill, 33

“The way things are if I had to do it again, I would not have retired before. I had 31 years with the company; I would have waited until I was 58 or 68. Everything has gone up so that unless I sell my house and move away [it’s too expensive to retire]. So I got another job. I haven’t thought about what we will do because my husband needs to work another 10 years. We will probably sell our house and move somewhere else and travel.”

“At this rate, when I die. When the tech market crashed I lost my retirement savings so I need to rebuild. I’d like to do lots of traveling. I’m a motorcycle lover so I’ll spend three months “headin out the highway.’”

Curt Lewis, 44

Software quality engineer

“About seven years because we’re trying to make sure we have enough money. Our children are grown and have families and they can take care of themselves. We’ll just live life, travel, do whatever we want to do. Our children are grown - we did our part.”

Sadie Beck, 57

Production planner

“Currently, I have no plans to retire because I’m already at home. I just spoil my sister’s children [I don’t have any]. I baby-sit them so she can work and then retire. Right now I’m disabled due to arthritis and fibromyalgia. I miss work.”

Rosemarie Salazar

“I don’t know, probably not at the normal age. I enjoy working and have to put my two daughters through college. When I do retire, I plan to relax and enjoy life and maybe travel.”
