Two locations this year

‘Clean Evergreen’ Day set for Saturday, April 9

It’s that time of year when you can rid yourself of large bulky items that you can’t recycle or fit into your normal garbage pick up.

‘Clean Evergreen’ Day produced boat-loads of household debris in 2004.

This April 9 “Clean Evergreen” home and backyard clean-up event, sponsored by the city of San Jose, is only available for Council District 8 residents living in 95148, 95121 and 95135 zip codes. Some neighborhoods in 95122 and 95138 are also part of District 8. Please bring a photo I.D. with your current address to be allowed to use the dumpsters.

The clean-up event is for household use only and will be held rain or shine. This year there will be two locations where you can dump your junk from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., or until the bins are full. Certain items will only be eligible for drop-off at the designated site.

McDonald’s
The traditional McDonald’s parking lot site at Aborn and White, for example, will be the only location where you can bring:
- televisions and computer monitors, with a limit of two per household
- clean concrete, brick, rock and cinderblock, but not rebar, other metal reinforcements or dirt
- mattresses, box springs and futon mattresses
- refrigerators and freezers
- air conditioners and other items with CFC gases
- tires (smaller than 33/12.5 x 15 and a limit of four per household)
- metal

The line for the McDonald’s site will begin on White Road.

Remington Way
Items accepted only at on Remington Way next to Boggini Park include:
- rubbish
- metal
- wood

The wood-only bin accepts lumber, fencing, wood, logs and branches with no leaves. You may not bring particle boards, laminate counter tops, hardware, glass and branches with leaves to this wood-only bin.

All unacceptable wood items can be disposed of in any rubbish bins except branches with leaves.

The line for the Remington Way site will begin on Stevens Lane, next to Boggini Park. Please enter at OakGate Way at Quimby Road. Due to the popularity of these clean-up events, expect long lines at both bin locations.

General instructions
Bring large items early and please break up bulky items before you arrive at the bin site.

For everyone’s safety, follow the directions of the bin monitors, who will be wearing neon green vests.

Do not place items outside of the dumpsters or at the dumpster location before they arrive.

Items not allowed at the clean-ups
- Recyclable items, such as glass, cans, newspaper or cardboard OF ANY SIZEthat can be recycled with regular garbage service
- Wet household garbage, dirt, yard waste and human waste
- Gas cylinders and tanks, such as propane or helium
- Gas powered motors, such as lawn mowers WITH FLUIDS (gas and oil)

Bin locations and time of delivery are subject to change. For additional information about this cleanup, contact Councilmember Dave Cortese’s District 8 office, (408) 277-5242.
