Books On Par
JFS golf tournament, dinner auction on May 16
By Teresa Albin
Special to the Times
On your mark, get set, go! The James Franklin Smith (JFS) Elementary School PTA is holding its fourth annual Books On Par event May 16 at the Silver Creek Valley Country Club.
This is the big JFS community event fundraiser held to raise money for the school library, technological resources and artistic programs for the students. Don’t have children who attend JFS? No problem! Everyone is welcome. It’s a great opportunity to rub elbows with captains of industry, local business people and our community.
Business leaders recognize that sponsoring a golf hole for Books On Par is a brilliant avenue for business development and community involvement. In addition to a magnificent golf venture at the Silver Creek Valley Country Club, sponsors enjoy corporate recognition in a variety of places at the club during the tournament, as well as in the Evergreen Times.
Sponsors are also honored with an engraved plaque and prominent banner at James Franklin Smith Elementary School. Boost your business exposure by sponsoring a hole! To take part, contact Leslie Shannon at leslie_ferguson@hotmail.com.
The event day starts out with an 18-hole round golf tournament at the Silver Creek Country Club that includes a catered lunch by Megabyte Pizza. The events continue into the evening with a silent auction held during the complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres reception. Gift baskets of treasures to bid on include theater tickets, an evening cruise on a private yacht, tickets for sporting events, spa gift certificates, dinner gift certificates and more.
Next is a sit-down dinner in the Silver Creek Country Club’s Yerba Buena Room, followed by the piece d’resistance, a live auction of the magnificent classroom art pieces, framed and ready for one’s home or office. The professional auctioneers are entertaining in themselves!
All the proceeds will be used to purchase books and resources for JFS. We welcome your support in helping our children achieve academic excellence and preparing them to become the future leaders of our community.
“We’d like to maintain a minimum ratio of 20 books per student in our library, and we’ve been growing by 100 students a year, which equates to 2,000 more books needed each year,” explained JFS Principal Will Ector.
The event is open to the entire community. You may purchase tickets just for the golf event, just for the dinner/auction, or together at a discount. Tickets can be purchased by downloading the registration form from http://eesd.org/jfs/pta/bop.
The deadline to purchase tickets is April 30. Last year’s dinner was sold out, so don’t delay. See you at Books On Par 2005!
