Did you watch the Academy Awards show? What were your general impressions? Were you surprised “Crash” won over “Brokeback Mountain?”
(Asked at Albertsons—Tully Road at Capitol Expressway)
“I saw most of it, the show was the same as always, not overly interesting. I didn’t see any of the movies. I think everyone was tired of ‘Brokeback Mountain.’ It peaked too soon and ‘Crash’ had more of a novel idea.”

“No, I didn’t watch it. I think it’s a waste of time, lots of hype and hurrah and it doesn’t affect whether I’ll go to see the movie or not.”

“Yes, I did watch it and Jon Stewart bombed. The awards were nice and there were some pleasant surprises. Everyone thought that ‘Brokeback Mountain,’ which was excellent, would win. But ‘Crash’ was excellent too. I think that ‘Crash’ had a deeper message about stereotypes and racism.”

“No, I would have if I had been home, but I didn’t get to watch it because my son was coming back from a church retreat and we had a potluck at 3 p.m. at the church followed by Mass. I was curious, but pleasantly surprised that ‘Crash’ won. I think that the producers tried to do something diverse and completely different and that’s why it won.”

“No, I was at my grandpa’s house. I don’t really care about it.”

“My son watched it. I watched the programs following it. I don’t like the movies, I’m a Christian and I watch family movies.”

“No, I go more for Spanish programming.”

“I didn’t really watch it, just saw it here and there when I was flipping channels around. I’m more into music performance than awards. I wasn’t surprised that ‘Crash’ won best picture. All the media said it would be a head-to-head competition between ‘Crash’ and ‘Brokeback Mountain.’ I think ‘Crash’ had more depth, ‘Brokeback Mountain was just another love story with two guys instead of a man and woman.”
