Rebuilding Together accepting applications for free repair work for low income homeowners
Rebuilding Together brings together communities and volunteers to rehabilitate the homes of low-income homeowners, particularly the elderly and disabled. All work is provided at no cost to the applicant. Repair work focuses on providing warmth, safety, and independence. Safety improvements are made throughout the year and one and two-day repair projects happen each April and October. Junior League of San Jose Rummage Sale March 24-25
The Junior League of San Jose celebrates the 20th Anniversary of its Community Service Rummage Sale, also known as “The Greatest Garage Sale on Earth.” This event brings over 33,000 square feet of bargains to the South Bay community. More than 3,000 people are expected to attend this year’s event.
The Junior League of San Jose, a non-profit organization of more that 800 women volunteers, has sponsored a Rummage Sale every other year since 1969. Proceeds from the Rummage Sale will be directed back into the community to help children 0-5 years enter kindergarten ready to learn and thrive. Each year, JLSJ members invest over 25,000 volunteer hours in the community and during its 40 year history JLSJ has put over four million dollars back into the community through collaborations with many local non-profit agencies.
This shopper’s paradise will take place on Saturday, March 24, from9 a.m. - 4 p.m., and on Sunday, March 25, from 9 a.m. – noon. In addition to the Rummage Sale, there will be a Community Health and Service Fair at the same location, on Saturday, March 24, from 8 a.m. until noon.
The Rummage Sale will be held at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds’ Pavilion Building, located on 344 Tully Road. For directions, go to http://www.thefair.org/map.php.
Evergreen Fine Arts Festival in need of sponsors
Evergreen Fine Arts Festival is returning on May 26 and 27 at the Evergreen Village Plaza and is in need of sponsors. The deadline for sponsorship is March 5. District 8 Neighborhood Leadership Summit March 27
The District 8 office will be hosting a Neighborhood Leadership Summit meeting to bring leaders of organized neighborhood groups together with Vice Mayor Dave Cortese. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss how the community and the District 8 office can work together more effectively to improve the quality of life for
residents.
The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 27, from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Public Library Community Room.

Evergreen resident Ana C. Leal Morales completes Air Force basic training
Air Force Airman Ana C. Leal Morales has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Leal Morales is the niece of Elsa Hernandez, and Maria E. Morales, both of Trebol Lane in Evergreen.
San Jose East Valley Lions Club seeks old eyeglasses for the needy
The San Jose East Valley Lions Club is looking to collect old eyeglasses for those in need. Interested parties may drop old eyeglasses off at Plaza Dental Group, located at Silver Creek Marketplace, 1654 E. Capitol Expressway, San Jose. The San Jose East Valley Lions Club will forward the glasses to their refurbishing center, where the lens scratches will be removed.
