Rotary District 5170 conducts media seminar

 

Jane Lawicki, Manager, Public and External Relations, Rotary International, Evanston, Illinois, opened the Fourth Annual Media/Communications Seminar for Rotarians in District 5170.

Local members interested in developing their skills in spreading the word to the community about Rotary met on Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Santa Clara County Office of Education.

Stew Park, Former General Manager of KNTV, Channel 11, was the moderator. David Cohen, publisher of Silicon Valley Community Newspapers, Bob Kieve, president of Empire Broadcasting (KLIV, KRTY), Tom Bryan, president of Red Wolf Video and TV Production Host of "Rotary Today" which airs on Comcast, Channel 21 and KCNS, Channel 38, Hilbert Morales, publisher of El Observador, Francois Daoust, Rotary 5170 Webmaster and Cindy Railing, Railing & Associates (Rotary District 5170 Media Database) were the seminar panelists.

Rotary is an organization of 1.2 million business and professional leaders in more than 165 countries, providing humanitarian services and building peace and goodwill in the world.

Some 31,000 Rotary clubs worldwide carry out service projects in their local communities and abroad to address such critical issues as poverty, health, hunger, illiteracy and the environment.

Santa Clara Valley National Bank closing

With the consolidation with Wells Fargo, the branch of Santa Clara Valley National Bank at Aborn and S. White will close at 3 p.m. on Mar. 14. Beginning on Mar. 15, customers may use any Wells Fargo location. The nearest facility is at 3331 San Felipe Road where the hours are Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

CHP offers check-up for child passenger seats

Is your child properly seated in your vehicle? Many are not, and that puts them in danger.

For a free inspection, go to the parking lot in front of the Healing Lily Clinic at 2724 Aborn Road on Mar 29. The California Highway Patrol will have trained inspectors to check the car seat for proper installation, advise on belting techniques and in some cases, replace a worn or improper seat.

Hammer Time

The home of the San Jose Repertory is now known as the Susan and Phil Hammer Theatre Center. The Rep offers professional live performances in the facility, one of finest theaters in the country. Phil Hammer was on the original board of trustees and has provided leadership and major fundraising for more than 25 years. Former mayor Susan Hammer was the impetus for getting the facility built even during difficult budget times due to her vision and commitment to the importance of the arts.
