Let the sun shine: solar-powered homes

More people are becoming interested in solar systems. Maybe it’s the possibility of saving energy costs. Or maybe wanting to “go green” But the use of alternative sources are something to consider. Evergreen residents have a chance to see for themselves.

On Mar. 10, San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed will join the California Energy Commission to discuss energy-efficient homebuilding at the Pinn Bros. Orchard Heights neighborhood, near Aborn and Mosher. Falcon Place and Orchard Heights will be the city’s first single family, solar powered and certified “green homes.”
Also in Evergreen, Horizon Energy Systems will be conducting meetings on how home owners in the California Oaks and Meadowlands can participate in a bulk buy, discount on solar systems. Kirk Newick of Horizon Energy Systems said, “Last year, we installed about two dozen systems in the Silver Creek area.”
The meetings will be held at Evergreen College on Wednesday, Mar. 12, 7:30-8:45 p.m. and Saturday, Mar. 15, 2:30-3:45 p.m.
