Teacher for a day…kind of
It was a different experience altogether for Evergreen Times Editor Diego Abeloos, who took the time to guest lecture a pair of journalism classes at Evergreen Valley High School on the morning of Feb. 17.

Abeloos, who also serves as the Sports Editor for the Times newspapers, was invited to be a guest in Art Smith’s two journalism classes to talk about his profession and work-related experiences he’s been through in his six years as a journalist.
Among the topics discussed were: what makes a good story, what is the typical day for a journalist like, and how to break into the field of journalism.
In addition, Times photographer Jeff Frazee also spoke to the classes about what it takes to be a photographer for a newspaper and about his experiences in the field.
Both Abeloos and Frazee also had a chance to take a peek at Evergreen Valley High’s first edition of the school newspaper, The Prowler, and came away quite impressed with the work of Evergreen’s young journalists.
Above all, Abeloos walked away from the experience with a much greater appreciation for the daily work of teachers, and their uncanny ability to hold a teenage group’s attention for an entire hour, several times throughout the day.
