Obituary
Evelyn Johnson Loos
August 21, 1929 to
February 8, 2006
Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 8, 2006 in San Jose, California at age 76 after suffering a stroke on December 31, 2005.
Evelyn was a strong and independent woman despite her battle with lupus and severe arthritis for over 40 years. Her strength of character was an inspiration to all who knew her. A devoted mother and loving wife, Evelyn enjoyed life completely. She was an active artist and avid card player and enjoyed traveling extensively. Her large family was the primary focus of her life and she delighted in her grandsons.
Evelyn was born in Galveston, Texas on August 21, 1929, the daughter of Raymond Leroy Johnson and Margaret Mary LaLanne, both of western Louisiana. At the age of 7 the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where she graduated from St. Francis Xavier High School in 1949. After briefly attending Arizona State University at Tempe, Evelyn followed her brother to San Diego to work at Convair, an aerospace company, where she met her husband of over 51 years, James Emmett Loos. They married on August 21, 1954 in Phoenix and then resided in San Diego until finally settling in Saratoga in 1963 to raise their six children. Evelyn and Jim retired to the Villages in San Jose in 1997.
Evelyn descended from American pioneers of the early colonies. Her mother’s family descended from the Mudd and Boarman families of Maryland in the 1600’s, and French, Cajun and Irish immigrants of Louisiana in the 1700’s. Her father’s family descended from the Scottish McFarlands of Tennessee in the 1700’s, who later migrated to Missouri and finally Texas in the 1840’s, and Scandinavian and Native American (Sauk Fox) families of Iowa.
She is survived by her husband, James Loos, and her children, their spouses and grandchildren: James Loos II, of San Jose; Margaret (Peg) Magarian of Alameda, and her husband Richard, and their children, Nicholas and Thomas; Stephen Loos of Hollister and his wife, Kym Spangler and their son, Zachary; Anne Loos of San Jose; Joseph Loos of Hollister and his wife, Wendy Murata and their children, Christopher and Brian; and Paul Loos of Palo Alto and his wife, Skye Callan. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona, and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews spread out across the United States.
