Benefit concert raises $11,000 to offset medical
expenses for local DJ Dennis Erectus

The joint was jumping on Jan. 12 at the Avalon Nightclub in Sunnyvale as several bands jammed for a good cause: offsetting medical expenses for local disc jockey Dennis Erectus. Erectus, who made a name for himself in the 70s with an avant-garde radio show on former radio station KOME, had continued to work in radio in smaller roles since then, suffered a heart attack on Thanksgiving night and is still hospitalized. When his friends and former co-workers heard about their uninsured friend’s plight, they decided to raise money to offset his mounting medical bills. Several musicians performed including Greg Kihn, his son Ry Kihn and Mark “Fenny” Fenichel and helped to raise $11,000 to go toward the bills. Erectus is slowly recovering from the effects of the heart attack and is said to be touched by the efforts of his industry friends and former listeners.

Donations can still be sent to defray Erectus’ medical costs. Checks can be made out to Dennis Netto (Dennis Erectus’ given name) or Dennis Erectus. Visit www.kome.us for information or you can send a check of any denomination to KBAY Radio, 190 Park Center Plaza, #200, San Jose, CA 95113, Attn: Jona Denz-Hamilton.
