Safe Passage Program
Citywide
As a result of a collaborative, weeklong campaign involving dayshift patrol teams and the Traffic Enforcement Unit, 292 officers responded to conduct traffic enforcement near 222 schools throughout the city in the Safe Passage Program. Their school-related actions resulted in issuing 1,265 citations, giving 685 warnings, impounding 46 vehicles and arresting 22 drivers. In addition, four radar-display trailers belonging to the city’s Department of Transportation and two radar-display trailers assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Unit were deployed at 25 schools throughout the city. This added an educational component to the department’s enforcement campaign by reminding motorists of the 25-mph speed limit requirement in school zones. The program will return in April after spring break.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Bentley Ridge/Wood Hollow
A stabbing occurred at Bentley Ridge Drive at Wood Hollow Court. The victims, associated with a rival gang of the suspects, were at a party on Concord Ridge Court. The suspects crashed the party and a fight ensued. The suspects chased the victims and rammed one victim’s car two times. The victims got out of the vehicle and fled. One suspect stabbed a 17-year-old victim in the neck. The injury was not life threatening. District Yellow units stopped a car matching the suspect car description. An in-field line-up identified at least one occupant of the suspect vehicle. He was booked into jail.

Coroner’s Case
8300 block of Chianti Court
A concerned family member called The Villages Public Safety to conduct a welfare check on an 81-year-old female resident. Upon arrival the security officer found the occupant had expired and called EMS personnel and attempted CPR. San Jose Fire responded and attempted CPR and ultimately called the police after pronouncing her dead.

Armed Robbery
Mt. Pleasant Road/Marten
Two teenage male victims were walking from the 7-11 when the suspects stopped in a dark Honda-type vehicle, exited the vehicle and threatened the victims with a knife. They took the victims’ property and fled west on Marten from Mt. Pleasant Road in the same vehicle.

Strong Arm Robbery
Brahms Avenue/Edgecrest
The victim was walking at the above location when he was accosted by three suspects. The suspects physically took several personal items from the victim and fled the scene on foot. Merge units arrested one suspect in this case and the investigation is continuing.

Armed Robbery
Eastridge Shopping Center
District Paul units were called to assist for traffic control around Eastridge Shopping Center. A grading tractor accidentally ran over and broke a four-inch gas main leading into the new construction buildings at the shopping center. The shopping center and all construction workers were evacuated until PG&E shut off the gas to this area and the area was checked for any lingering gas. There were no injuries reported.

Coroner’s Case
2600 block of Orinda Drive
The reporting party called 9-1-1 when she discovered her 55-year-old husband unresponsive on the floor. Fire responded and pronounced the victim deceased. No unusual circumstances were noted. The coroner’s office investigator responded and took custody of the victim’s body.

Strong Arm Robbery
Marten/Mt. Pleasant Road
A 16-year-old male victim was walking home on Mt. Pleasant Road and was assaulted by two 18-year-old African-American males. The victim was knocked down and received a cut to his hand and mouth when he fell down. He refused medical attention. The suspects are not known to the victim and they remain outstanding. The suspects took the victim’s cell phone and CD case.

Coroner’s Case
2800 block of Ridel Court
Units responded to a call of a unresponsive 99-year-old male. There were no signs of foul play or neglect. The coroner’s office signed a pending release. The subject was transported to a local mortuary pending a final release by the coroner.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon
King/Burdette, 7-11 Store
The suspect entered the 7-11 and grabbed a 12-pack of beer. He then ran out of the store without paying for the merchandise. The clerk ran after him and tried to stop him. The suspect hit the clerk with the 12-pack on the side of his head causing a 2-inch cut on the clerk’s ear. The clerk held the suspect until police arrived on scene. The victim was treated by paramedics at the scene. The suspect was booked into jail.

Vehicle’s Failure to Yield / Injury Accident
Capitol Expressway/Quimby Road
An officer observed and followed a suspicious vehicle on Highway 680 to the Capitol Expressway off ramp. He attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle fled southbound on Capitol Expressway. The suspicious vehicle was seen running the red light at Tully Road and then at Quimby Road where the suspect vehicle struck another vehicle in the intersection. The suspect vehicle then stuck a light signal pole. Both occupants of the suspect’s vehicle were taken via ambulance to VMC. Both occupants were arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle at VMC. There were no injuries to the motorist or officers.

Coroner’s Case
Garden House Way/McCarthy Ranch Drive
The San Jose Fire Department responded to a “man down” call at the above location. They found the 81-year-old male victim on the sidewalk, not breathing. They were unable to revive him and pronounced him deceased. Police responded and noted no obvious signs of trauma or foul play. The coroner was notified.
