Villages’ Red Hat Society
By Jan Coleman
Special to the Times
On Jan. 24, the ”Crimson Charmers” met for a luncheon at the Clubhouse. Sixteen women dressed in their finery (red hats and purple outfits) met to have fun together and enjoy the afternoon. This month we all brought poems to the luncheon, decorated our poems, read our poems to the group and lastly, gave the poem to another woman. This was something new and enjoyable for everyone.

This International Society is the biggest women’s playgroup in the world. The Red Hat Society (RHS) is comprised of chapters in every state and over thirty countries. Its main purpose is to dress up, get together and have fun. Women over 50 years old wear the red and purple; however, women under 50 can join also and wear a pink hat with lavender clothing. The women love dressing up, laughing together and finding new friendships.
In The Villages there is a membership of approximately 100 women – one club with three different chapters working together. In December, the three chapters got together to donate to “Toys for Tots” with two Marines picking up the toys. If you’re interested in learning more about the RHS, please call Annette Mach, “Vermillion Villages” chapter, 531-8614, or Sunny Hunter, “Crimson Charmers” chapter, 274-8474. The third chapter, “Scarlet Sirens” under Barbara Metzler is filled at this time.
