Senior Academy for Education met at The Villages

“Many people have worked hard to make the Senior Academy a success. Everyone who joins the Senior Academy, attends our events, or brings a friend or tells a friend about us helps us carry out our mission to provide opportunities for lifelong learning,” said Dolores Escobar Hamilton, President of the Senior Academy for Education. She ad-dressed the members and guests at the Senior Academy Meeting and Reception held in the Club-house at the Villages on Friday, Jan. 23.

President Escobar Hamilton went on to say, “Today we want to recognize individuals who are not members of the Board, but who have provided outstanding service, or provided leadership by coordinating a Senior Academy event, or lent specialized expertise to the organization or made a generous cash contribution to our cause. We want to say publicly that we are very grateful to all of you. We need you to grow and provide even greater service to our community.

“We would like to present the following individuals with a small gift of appreciation:

Elizabeth Benson, currently coordinating the memoir events; Susan Dooley, who developed our first email directory; Thom Harney, who lent his legal expertise as we developed our partnership with the Osher Institute; Estelle Kabbani, who coordinated the Ginger Rodgers/Fred Astaire event and Jean Hinman and Marilyn Daniels who volunteered their services at lectures and the golf clinic.

“And, to our individual donors who contributed beyond their dues: Reyetta Adams, Peg and Charles Bougopolous, and Mary Lou and Benton White.”

Terri Molloy, Vice-President of the Senior Academy for Education (SAFE) said, “The Senior Academy sponsors 12 events each year. We have our special Harrington Lectures, one in the spring and one in the fall. A Women’s Memoir Writing Workshop will be presented in February and March. Bird Watching: How to Get Started will be presented in February. And, What’s Right With Education featuring Dr. Susan Meyers, Dean of the College of Education, San Jose State University and Dr. Porter, Superintendent of the Franklin McKinley School District, will be presented at the Cribari Auditorium on Thursday, Mar. 12 at 7:00 p.m.” (Photos/Caption by Thom Harney.)

Norm Tarowsky, President of the Evergreen Democratic Club at the Villages, worked with others to plan the event for the happy celebrants. During the dinner, the events of the Inauguration were projected on a large screen so all could review the events of the day.
