SCHOOL BRIEFS

Evergreen Elementary School to hold E-waste Collection event
Jan. 27 and 28

Evergreen Elementary School, in cooperation with Asset Services and Liquidators (ASL), a San Jose-based company, will hold an educational E-waste collection event on Jan. 27 from 3 - 5 p.m. and on Jan. 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

ASL is a state-authorized San Jose-based recycling company that works with the State of California to ensure that all electronic waste (e.g. computers, monitors, televisions etc.) posing a potential threat to our environment is correctly recycled using a safe, worry-free procedure. The State reimburses ASL for the electronic waste it collects. ASL passes on a portion of the reimbursement money to any school, church or charity, which sponsors a “Cash for Trash E-Waste Collection Event,” where the public donates their electronic waste to support the cause. Private businesses, community service organizations, and governmental entities can also sponsor a collection event for the benefit of a particular charitable cause, using their resources and influence to encourage donations of electronic waste. This is all done with no charge to the public, sponsoring entity, or charitable cause. Hence, a “Collection Event” promotes a clean environment, raises money for good cause, and provides all of us in this consumer electronic society with a place to get rid of our ever mounting electronic waste.

“We recognize how our schools, churches and organizations, such as the Red Cross, work so hard to create a better environment for all, plain and simple,” said Bill McGeever, Vice President of Operations at ASL. “We found a way to be a part of that.”

The only requirement for interested parties to sign up and participate in a “Collection Event” is a desire to make a positive difference. ASL does the rest. ASL is located at 524 Brennan Avenue in North San Jose, just off of Junction Avenue, and is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. ASL always offers a free collection service to California consumers and businesses large or small. Drop-offs always welcome. For more information call (877) 279-0230
