CRIME STOPPER
Crime Stoppers expanding public awareness
with reward message labels on taxicabs
The Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers has expanded its public awareness through a collaborative effort with 12 taxicab companies.
The taxicab companies are allowing Crime Stoppers to put their “Reward Message Label” on the backside windows of over 400 taxicabs.
The Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers is a collaborative effort made up of a citizen volunteer board of directors that coordinates with a San Jose Police Officer.
Officer Jason Pierce evaluates the tips received and then passes the information on to the proper law enforcement agency. He coordinates with all the law enforcement agencies in Santa Clara County. The tipster gets a “code number” and if the tip results in an arrest, the tipster is entitled to a reward of up to $1,000. Tipsters will, as always, remain anonymous.
This the 25th year that Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers has been in operation and the results to date are impressive, with over 900 arrests and over $11,000,000 worth of drugs and goods being confiscated.
Since the Crime Stopper program receives no Federal, State or Local Agency funding, it relies on corporate, company, and individual contributions and a once-a-year golf tournament to sustain their Reward Fund and Public Awareness Campaigns.
The 2006 Golf Tournament will be held on May 1 at the Silver Creek Country Club in San Jose. For further information, contact Officer Jason Pierce at (408) 947-STOP.
