Happy New Year Message from Silver Creek High School PTSA

By Ed Wong
SCHS PTSA President

We hope that everyone has had a great holiday season – a time where we personally try to slow down a little and share good times with family and friends.

At our next PTSA Board Meeting on Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, the California Highway Patrol will be presenting their first START SMART program at Silver Creek High School beginning at about 6:30 p.m. (The PTSA Board will hold an abbreviated Board Meeting preceding the START SMART program.)

CHP Officer Brandie Dressel will discuss traffic collision avoidance techniques, collision causing factors, driver/parent responsibilities and seatbelt usage. Additionally, testimonies will be provided by officers who have investigated fatal collisions involving teens and by family members who have lost loved ones in traffic collisions.

Officer Dressel has let us (PTSA) know that they can accommodate up to fifteen pairs (a parent and a teen 15 and older) in each class.

Our goal is have the CHP run this program at Silver Creek as much as needed.

As we enter 2008, I would like to update the membership and the community on some events that have happened at Creek this school year:

1. In October, Silver Creek High School and our PTSA hosted the first-ever community-wide Evergreen Community Education Group (ECEG) Celebrity Basketball Game – which pitted Bubba Paris (ex-49er) and his All-Star friends against the Evergreen Elementary School District and ESUHSD teachers and staff in a fun-filled, action-packed and community-building basketball game. The game packed our newly remodeled gym and gave the community a first look at Creek’s new classroom building and new streetscape. Even more importantly, it showcased the Silver Creek High School spirit and pride.

2. In December, Silver Creek High PTSA surprised our librarian, Margaret Williams, and presented to her copies of all the classic books on her request list – everything from 1984 and Animal Farm to East of Eden and A Tale of Two Cities.

3. Also in December, the students of Silver Creek’s Junior Class (of 2009) put on their second annual Winter Wonderland for the parents and kids of the Silver Creek community. SCHS PTSA has been more than happy to support this worthy cause that generates community support and fun for the kids and community.
We look forward to a equally great and productive 2008!

See you all at our next SCHS PTSA meetings:
