Storm rages to victory
By Victor Aquino
Special to the Times
Over the last October weekend, the Storm, a Mt. Hamilton U14 girls soccer team, earned first place for the second consecutive year in the North Valley Fall Classic Tournament. The 12th annual tournament had teams coming from Gilroy, Los Gatos, Blossom Valley, Evergreen, North Valley and Central Valley.

As all their games were hotly contested, the Storm girls faced two previously undefeated teams in the qualifying games and did not allow a single goal during the weekend tourney. Their grand finale was a harsh, physical match against the undefeated Swarm from Willow Glen that ended with a solid 2-0 victory. Overall, the Storm scored 14 unanswered goals during the tournament.
“The skill and level of play from these division 4 teams would completely surprise you”, stated Storm head coach, Bryan McCarthy,
“Luckily, our girls are some of the best athletes in their schools. And this usually works out to our advantage.”
Most of the girls have been together for five seasons or more and come from the area schools such as Chaboya, Quimby, Leyva, August Boeger and other private schools. Some of the girls also find themselves competing against each other with the same intensity on their school sports teams.
Regardless, the Storm girls will look to continue their success together into the near future.
