Honey, honey

By Bill Highlander

TK Kane is the construction manager for Ranger Construction, and has overseen the building of the new Infiniti dealership structure at Capitol Expressway and Tully Road. He is also a beekeeper and he was able to add to his hives during his latest project.

Kane found several colonies of bees while cutting the papper trees on the property. One colony (see picture) had decided to live outside a hive about 40 feet up in the tree. Kane used a basket lift to get up to the bees, hooked a pulley around the limb before cutting the branch and then lowered the hive down to a box.

Several other hives were “rescued,” says Kane, and taken to his home where he also keeps bees and harvests honey. Some of the hives were inside the trees and some remain on the dealership property. Kane says they are very mellow bees.
