A Nakamutsu Premiere at the California Theater: Jon Nakamatsu will perform a piano concerto commissioned expressly for him and written by David Amram. The concert also includes Haydn’s Symphony No. 95 and Respighi’s Feste romane. The Tabard Theatre Company presents The Little Prince at Theater on San Pedro Square: This whimsical adaptation of Antoine de Saint Exupery’s delightful novel speaks to the child in everyone. Directed by Andrew Ceglio, The Little Prince marks the third production of the Tabard’s 2008-2009 season. For a special treat, join cast and staff for an opening night reception following the performance. Scrumptious dessert offerings are donated by Charlie’s Cheesecake Works, a Tabard Community Partner. Ballet San Jose Audition Tour For 2009-10 Season: Dennis Nahat, Artistic/Executive Director of Ballet San Jose, announces open auditions for the company’s 2009-10 season, which runs from Sept. ‘09 – May ‘10. Requirements; bring headshot, resume and dance photo if available. Women must wear light or skin color tights and bring pointe shoes. Men must wear light color tights and bring ballet shoes. All dancers should bring character shoes. Audition will include ballet class, pointe work and partnering. No pre-registration required. Please arrive at least 20 minutes early to fill out the audition application and pay any fees. Location is 40 North First St, from 1 – 3 p.m. – phone 288-2820 for directions. Insect-igations! Don’t have to look hard to find masters of camouflage, secret weapons and devious tricks of survival! Join Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens as we explore the world of Insects; these mostly tiny, short-lived, arthropods who outnumber all other fellow creatures on earth! We’ll do experiments, play games and take a walk down to the river to find insects we can see under the microscope. Become a budding entomologist and check out some wild and wacky bugs from far and wide. Workshop location - 438 Coleman Ave, San Jose, CA 95110. The Venture Crew 264 of Evergreen will be hosting a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for our upcoming ski trip in February. Event time is 5 – 8 p.m. at Grace Church, at 2650 Aborn Rd., San Jose. The cost is $5 per person, and will include a plate of spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, and a drink. We will also be having a bake sale.We are expecting as many as 250 people to attend!

Tax Volunteers Needed: The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is looking for volunteers who would like to help seniors file their taxes for this upcoming tax season from February 1st till April 15th. If you have experience filing taxes or enjoy doing the taxes for your family and friends this temporary volunteer opportunity would be a rewarding experience! You would be volunteering at Evergreen Library on Thursdays from 10:00am – 1:00pm. There will be a tax training classes in January at the Office on Aging. Curbside Christmas Tree recycling guidelines from the city of San Jose: After Christmas, natural and flocked trees will be collected curbside from January 9, 2009, to January 30, 2009, on the same day as regular yard trimmings collection. To recycle Christmas trees, remove tinsel, decorations and the tree stand. Cut the trees into five-foot lengths and place them in the street about a foot from the curb. Extra Garbage Stickers are not needed for tree recycling. Christmas tree recycling is a way of continuing the holiday spirit by giving back to nature. Yard trimmings collected in San Jose are ground into compost and used by local agriculture and the city to enrich the soil of farms and parks.

1st Annual Crab Feed to benefit the Dream On Foundation: High Five at the Plex, located within Silver Creek Sportsplex at 800 Embedded Way in San Jose, will host this fundraising event to benefit the Dream On Foundation. The all-you-can-eat Crab Feed will also feature a full pasta buffet. Come cheer on the Sharks while they crack the Canucks in Vancouver on one of the many big screen televisions. There will be a silent auction before the Sharks game, with raffle and prize drawings during the intermissions. In addition, there will be special guest appearances by local sports personalities. Chaboya Middle School PTSA Free Electronic Waste Recycling Event: This is our second annual partnering with ASL; a state authorized electronic waste recycler to help raise funds for Chaboya Middle School. We are holding this at the Chaboya Middle School parking lot between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. This event is free to the public and it is so easy, you just need to drive up and drop off your electronic junk at 3276 Cortona Road, ASL employees will be on hand to assist you. Items accepted: Computers, computer monitors, laptops, keyboards, mice, printers, cables/cords power supplies, disk drives, zip drives, televisions, VCR’s, DVD players, stereo equipment, radios, tape drives, cell phones, shredders, oscilloscopes, PC boards, lab equipment, telephones, fax machines and microwaves. Las Madres Neighborhood Playgroup: Las Madres is a non-profit corporation dedicated to providing ways for families with children ages 5 years old and younger to network and receive parenting support and education. Run entirely by volunteers, we warmly welcome mothers, fathers, grandparents, aunts and nannies to join. Playgroups arranged by children’s birth year and we currently have active playgroups for babies, toddlers and preschoolers born from 2003 through 2008. Most playgroups meet one or more times a week. Any person who supports Las Madres’ non-profit educational mission may join. Members start with a support-group only membership for $30 and may add playgroup(s) for $20.
